Location
Trzcianne commune is located in north-east part of Poland, in Podlaskie voievodeship. The commune is placed at the edge of Biebrza National Park. About half of the commune's territory lies within Park's boundary. Through territory of the commune pass four rivers: Narew in the south, Biebrza in the west, Kosódka and Nereśl in the east. Trzcianne commune lies on the territory of Mońki County. Trzcianne's neighbours are Radziłów, Jedwabne, Wizna, Zawady, Tykocin, Krypno, Mońki and Goniądz communes.
Area and land use
The total area of the commune is 33 164 ha. Amongst them: arable land - 6 508 ha, orchards - 61 ha, hay meadows - 5 385 ha, pastures - 2 242 ha, forests - 6 839 ha. The rest of the commune's territory (12 129 ha) these are human settlements, roads, waters and wastelands.
Population
In 26 villages lives 5 048 people (2 603 men and 2 445 women). Commune is divided on 21 smaller units called solectwo.
Nature values
The most striking feature of the Trzcianne commune is attractive landscape and richness of wildlife inhabiting the Biebrza Wetlands and neighbouring forests and farmland. Species which are rare in many European countries, such as beavers, moose, wolves, otters, cranes, white and black storks, spotted eagles and corncrakes are numerous here. Unique nature values favours development of agri- and eco-tourism. Ten farmers started to offer bed and breakfast service.
